Our story begins with Iron Maiden’s first live recordings, starting from the initial compilation recordings and ‘Live Plus One,’ and then takes us on a fantastic journey through the stories behind the videos ‘Live at Rainbow,’ the EP ‘Maiden Japan,’ and other live recordings such as ‘The Beast Over Hammersmith,’ ‘Live Pieces,’ ‘Behind the Iron Curtain,’ and ultimately ‘Live After Death.’ Although ‘Live After Death’ is the band’s first official live album, created ten years after their formation, the fact is that Iron Maiden consistently released live editions and grew with each one. Eventually, they released in the form of a live album what they believed to be the pinnacle of their career at that point.

The ‘Live After Death’ album/video is not just an excellent record in musical and performance terms. In fact, Bruce’s voice was tired and worn out, faithfully reflecting the scale and demands of the mammoth world tour. This album is much more than that; it is the culmination of heavy metal’s affirmation as an inexhaustible force that was never just a trend or fashion but something so huge that it would become part of our everyday lives, despite never wanting or intending to become mainstream. This album has influenced countless generations, inspiring them with the magic of starry dust. All the kids and teenagers back then would gaze with wide-open eyes at the booklet, dreaming of traveling to distant and exotic destinations, playing before thousands of fans on a stage more magnificent than the most elaborate opera performance of Aida.

A spectacular album cover by maestro Derek Riggs, an incredible booklet and comprehensive packaging with over a hundred photographs and interesting tour details, timeless video footage shot with a film camera, innovative stage production, a mammoth tour, and breaking through the ‘Iron Curtain’ with full production. This album alone deserves to be in an imaginary ‘Live Hall of Fame’ on a separate throne. This book is the least I could do to honor it.
